Not If But What If

A Cosmology


Abstract

The current discussion amongst established religious leaders and members of the scientific community, concerning physical reality and God, has little formative impact on people who believe in continuation of life after physical death. Broadening this discussion to include nonphysical reality presents opportunities to develop new tools for personal growth. Emphasis should be on changing the perspective of metaphysical1 research from seeking to determine if the concepts are valid, to evaluating the results of their conditional acceptance. Key to this is the normalization of metaphysical terminology and concepts to emphasis natural phenomena rather than religious doctrine. A consensus cosmology is presented as an example. This “Standard Cosmology”2 has been designed as a predictive hypothesis to be tested and refined through evaluation of relevant personal experiences.


Worldview

Worldview is a most powerful thing. It is the perspective from which each of us forms an opinion of our surroundings, and thus it is the mold in which we form our local reality. Everything in our experience is measured against this seemingly solid, absolute yardstick of judgment, even as this worldview evolves with our gathering maturity. Those of us who believe many metaphysical concepts are valid, and who have worked to incorporate them into our way of living, know that progression grows within us as our worldview becomes more aligned with reality. This is not the reality of our world we seek to understand, but the greater reality that embraces this world and extends beyond our physical knowing.

Perhaps you know people who work with metaphysical concepts without apology and with little doubt in their validity. I expect these people express ideas that seem contradictory to you. For instance, they may express an absolute belief in life after death. Yet when asked for their proof, explain that they have faith in the immortality of Self. Have you decided they are deluded?

This is an important point I hope to clarify with a brief meditation to focus your recollection. After you have finished reading this and the next paragraph, I would like you to close your eyes and relax while you take a deep breath. Remember to hold this breath and feel the oxygen infuse your body with new energy. Slowly exhale, and then take another deep breath and allow your body to settle upon itself. Feel your neck muscles relaxing, your back curving to fit the chair. Allow the air to escape from your lungs, and as your eyelids relax, feel the energy of your breath go to that place in your head that seems to be the center of your relaxation. Relax.

Now I would like you to remember when you have heard someone express what you considered irrational New Age3 thinking. Perhaps you can remember someone say that “Spirit came to them,” or that they would “send someone healing light.” Can you remember something like this? Can you sense the sincerity in their voice? They believed what they said, didn’t they? Did you notice that they spoke with the same sincerity others express when they say that they will pray for someone? Can you remember? Can you hear them and sense their sincerity? When you have finished, take another deep breath and sit up in your chair. Stretch and be active for a moment so that you will be alert.

The purpose of this exercise is to help illustrate that a substantial portion of Humankind believes in and successfully applies what I will describe here as metaphysical concepts. While they are widely held concepts, there is little organization to them as a community resource. What people know, they have haphazardly learned through reading and from collectives such as their church or New Age focused gatherings. Can you see the paradox in this? If these concepts are valid, then they are fundamental to human existence. Yet there has been little effort to codify the concepts into an ordered system or to help people find ways to apply them to improve their lot.

By the way, if you practice meditation, you will have recognized this exercise as a brief guided meditation. I asked you to participate in the exercise so that you might sense the potential of meditation, even as you encountered the ambiguity inherent in the terminology. Concepts, such as “center of relaxation” or “sensing,” when referring to guided imagery, are intangibles that require you to accept your understanding of their meaning as a matter of faith. Most people arrive at this acceptance with the help of role models, and eventually, by learning to behave as if they understand the concepts. This exercise illustrates the central difficulty of codifying metaphysical terms. That is, it is very difficult to describe abstract terms without a vocabulary derived from shared experience.

A Standard Vocabulary

The study of metaphysics is assuming the mantle of an organized science. To be sure, it is not a hard science . . . yet. You will see though, that it has great potential to become a profound, practical discipline capable of guiding Humankind into a new era of personal understanding. Yes, this is a grandiose claim, but how else would you describe an area of study concerned with the nature of reality? Before this grand potential can be realized; however, considerable effort is required to bring metaphysics out of the darkness of esoterica and into the light of popular wisdom.

Contrary to appearances, metaphysics is not about religion even though it has inherited most of its vocabulary from religion based systems of belief. For this reason, central to the usefulness of metaphysics as a tool for enhancing human potential is the codification of acceptable terms and concepts. My work in describing a metaphysical cosmology, which I refer to as the Standard Cosmology, has shown this normalization of terms to be very important. This is especially true when professionals, who have been trained in the scientific method, are asked to speak to religious or New Age audiences. At issue is the diversity of worldviews. A person of science avoids words that are imbued with emotional meaning, while a person of religion will deliberately use such words. New Agers tend to select words that convey immediacy, making it seem as if nature were a sentient friend. Scientists tend to shun this view as escapism. The objective then, is to select words with meanings that can be agreed to by everyone, at least within the context of the Standard Cosmology.

My approach has been to define terms as they are first used and then to faithfully apply those terms in the context of their definition. A good example of conditional meaning in the Standard Cosmology is the name given the Prime Creator. Names for the Prime Creator, such as “First Cause” or “Creator Intelligence” are more acceptable to pragmatists, while religious leaders prefer “God” or “Infinite Intelligence.” “Prime Creator” is used in the Standard Cosmology for any reference to the first cause of our reality. This term is less charged with religious connotation, and helps to keep the reader’s focus on important principles, rather than the deity.

Another example is the word “spirit.” This word is used in so many ways within religious and New Age communities, but discussions about spirit are often reduced to confusing generalities involving vague references to unseen forces. True, a person who is well based in these cultures can generally capture the intended meaning from context. So yes, communication may be accomplished, but not to the degree necessary for codification. In the Standard Cosmology, “Spirit” with a capital “S” is reserved for an aspect of the Prime Creator believed to be responsible for the governing principles of nature. When healing energy or energy from the Prime Creator is intended, I ask the religious community to conditionally accept the term “etheric energy” as a general concept, just as I ask the scientific community to conditionally accept the possibility that such energy may exist. “Spiritual” is used as a reference to things concerned with the Prime Creator.

You may think it naive of me to believe I can convince my readers to consider these concepts with an open mind by simply asking them to suspending judgment. My answer is to remind you that this is routinely done in science. In my experience, people of widely differing worldviews are open to consider most metaphysical concepts. It is the context in which these concepts are presented that causes the problems. Once the vocabulary has been normalized and the demand for blind faith removed, disagreements tend to dissolve into simple differences in style. Consider meditation. It has religious origins, yet it has been embraced by the western world as a tool for improving health and for communion with the Self.

A Standard Cosmology

At the very core of any worldview is a system of belief. In a religious context, this system of belief is codified in church doctrine. In the scientific community, it is codified in models, laws, hypothesis and the like. In metaphysics, this system of belief is codified in a cosmology that includes a genesis, an explanation of the relationship between Self and the Prime Creator, and a system of governing principles which seeks to explain the operation of reality.

The cosmology I propose here is intended to provide the foundation for a change in worldview without requiring a change in belief system. It is a hypothesis, and as such, it is a model intended to represent what is understood about reality. As you know, hypothetical models may be used to refine an initial understanding of reality, through iterative testing, to see how well the hypothesis predicts the operation of reality. Some may mistake hypothetical reality for truth, but that is not what is intended. Likewise, some may refuse to accept the possibility that a hypothesis may accurately describe reality and never make the logical leap from conjecture to application. Hypothesis is a tool that can lead to better understanding of reality. I ask you to neither accept the Standard Cosmology as truth, nor reject it as impossible. Above all, have fun with it and imagine . . . what if?

I will begin with a summary of the essential elements of the cosmology followed by a creation story intended to establish the initial condition of our reality. After that, I will focus on some of the more important elements of the cosmology, including a listing of governing principles. Finally, I will discuss implications of the Standard Cosmology and suggest ways in which it may be tested.

Essence of the Standard Cosmology Hypothesis

Given

  1. There is a prime creator entity.

  2. The Prime Creator exists in a reality that has evolved as the spiritual maturity of its citizens has evolved.

  3. Reality is continuous beyond the physical.

  4. Reality exists as a dynamic response to the intention acting on governing principles of nature which manages etheric energy.

  5. Creation of reality continues.

  6. The Prime Creator extended an aspect of Itself as a creator entity, known here as Self, with the instinct to fulfill a specific purpose and self-determination in how to proceed.

  7. Self’s purpose is to experience the operation of nature, understand the implications, and return to its creator entity with that comprehension.

  8. Self differentiates the nature of etheric energy according to its worldview, and emanate that energy into its environment.

  9. The Prime Creator extended an aspect of Itself as a formative entity, known here as Spirit, with the instinct to fulfill a specific purpose and self-determination in how to proceed.

  10. Spirit exists to maintain and operate reality in the formation of reality based on images held by Self.

Hypothesis

Local reality is a component of a greater reality that has been imagined by one or more creator aspects wishing to understand the nature of reality. As an aspect of a creator entity, Self is a member of a group awareness or hierarchy, to which it will eventually return with a unique understanding of the nature of reality.

Self must enter into a symbiotic relationship with a physical body to exist in the Physical Plane. Between the physical body and Self’s creator entity are other bodies associated with the intervening planes of existence of this locale. These bodies are linked through vortices that channel energy to the lower planes. Self’s point of view is associated with its lowest frequency body. In the case of a person currently living in the Physical Plane, his point of view is associated with his physical body.

As Self forms an image in its awareness, it gathers etheric energy to that image. Self’s intention or expectation for that image to become reality focuses this energy. This focused energy empowers Spirit, which is necessary to manifest the image as a component of reality. Spirit maintains these components as long as Self’s attention remains focused on them.

Predictions

  1. The specific purpose for our existence is to experience the operation of reality and gain understanding of its governing principles. If we do not initially understand its operation, we will continue to have experiences that offer further opportunities for understanding.

  2. We seldom understand the implications of experiences we have in a lifetime. Therefore, we, as Self, must continue beyond an individual lifetime to understand the governing principles of nature. (By the way, imperfect understanding of these principles is the basis of Karma.)

  3. Our ability to modify local reality depends on our ability to focus attention, our clarity of visualization, our understanding of nature and our ability to live in accordance with nature’s governing principles.

  4. We initially enter into this local reality with the collective understanding of nature held by our creator entity, but with a certain naiveté concerning the specific aspects of reality we are to experience. Therefore, individuals among us will exhibit varying degrees of spiritual maturity that bears little relationship to their physical maturity.

  5. There is a difference in the nature of reality between our place of awareness and that of our creator entity. Communications must be possible across that difference.

  6. A veil of forgetfulness must exist to cloud our recollection of nonphysical experience. Such a veil assures our complete involvement with physical experiences. It must require a high degree of spiritual maturity to bridged this veil.

  7. Physical death, which is transition out of the Physical Plane, will not automatically end Self’s involvement with physical reality. Interaction between a discarnate Self and physical reality should be expected for some time after transition.

  8. We must understand the unique operation of nature in this local reality before we may return to our creator entity. Therefore, there should be cooperation amongst our fellow physical and nonphysical aspects that aids in our pursuit of spiritual maturity.

So there you have the basic Standard Cosmology hypothesis. Reality is complex, and for a model of reality to be of any use, it must necessarily address many abstract subjects. With this in mind, I will now attempt to give you a context for this hypothesis by telling you the following story. As you consider this story, remember that it has been synthesized from many systems of belief. This is information about reality beyond the veil. As nonphysical information, these original beliefs must have been given to Humankind by nonphysical entities, either directly through purposeful mediumship or indirectly through dreams and visions. Thus, I must remind you of the need for discernment. Use this story as a window through which you may glean the basic organization and purpose of our existence as proposed in this hypothesis.

Whatever the truth may be, whatever may lay hidden beyond, its meaning in our lives must be inferred from its influence on our behavior. The one certainty we have is that there is more to reality than that which we sense with our physical selves. Is there a nonphysical reality? What if there is?

A Creation Story

This cannot be known, but it seems as if this story is true.

Before the beginning of our time, there was energy and existence, nothing else. This energy was not the energy of our reality, but somewhere in what we know of our present energy is the truth of what came before. Some form of governing principles must have governed the operation of this nascent energy. Because there was energy, and because there were rules governing the existence of that energy, a certain order must have emerged. In time, that order evolved a sense of Self and became an entity.

We do not know if this entity was alone, but we can know that something caused this entity to think about the reality it existed in, and to wonder about its nature. Something must have caused it to turn its wondering into imagined possibilities of what its reality might mean.

Thus in the beginning of our time, this entity we shall know as the Prime Creator, had an image of its existence It knew as the true nature of reality. This sense of knowing about reality had become Its worldview.

Being a profound thinker, the Prime Creator understood the power of conviction and wondered at the paradox of creation. “I believe I understand the reality of my existence,” the Prime Creator mused, “yet in this conviction is the seed from which a new reality will manifest. Reality will conform to what I believe of it, yet the true reality remains. A reality within a reality. How can I know that the reality I create agrees with the true reality?”

Even in these early times of creation the Prime Creator had a fine sense of action. “Belief must be aligned with reality through experience. Therefore, I will test my worldview by experiencing whatever it will form.” The Prime Creator decided this with great resolve. “This then is my intention.”

Now before this story may be continued, it is important that you understand that the Prime Creator did not turn to a great creation stage or go to a manifestation workshop to begin Its grand experience. After all, this is not a science fictions story. To begin this process, the Prime Creator simply considered Its worldview much as you might meditate on what you believe to be true. In effect, the Prime Creator allowed what It believed about reality to form a mental image. “I believe this,” the Prime Creator may have thought. “If I imagine myself in a reality formed of this belief, would my experience of it be true to what I have experienced in my world?”

Just as it is when you create a mental image, the Prime Creator’s attention on the image gathered energy, which followed Its intention to make the image real. This process continues today as the outflow of the purest of etheric energy. We know the constraints and considerations embedded within this energy as the governing principles of nature. We know the image of the Prime Creator’s worldview as Spiritual Reality. In this way then, the Prime Creator became the creator entity for our reality. Our reality is within the Prime Creator mind.

The Prime Creator considered the image of Its worldview from two perspectives that manifested as two important aspects of Its personality. First to manifest was a creative aspect, which is the perspective from which the Prime Creator intended to experience the possibilities of Its worldview. Second was a formative aspect that carried the essence of the Prime Creator’s understanding of its reality. It is within this second aspect that the constraints and considerations of the Prime Creator’s worldview are manifest in the natural. The Prime Creator intended the creator and formative aspects to behave with a degree of autonomy. That is, these aspects would exist within the constraints of Its worldview, but would otherwise have self-determination.

We can not know with any certainty what the Prime Creator intended. All we have to guide us in this matter is the result of the Prime Creator’s intention. We gain understanding of this by experiencing reality and learning to understand how it works. It is clear this individuality we express, as agents of the Prime Creator’s will, has further assured the true formation of the Prime Creator’s personal reality. “If I express my intention, but otherwise do not interfere,” the Prime Creator must have thought, “then I will avoid injecting my whimsy into the creation of my personal reality. It would not do for me to change the rules in the middle of this grand experience.”

If in the past you have opened yourself in meditative communion on what you believe to be true about your world, then you too will have extended aspects of yourself into situations that have been shaped by your worldview. If you have remained detached from the outcome you will have given these aspects self-determination in their interaction with your personal reality. In this way, you may recognize the truth of what the Prime Creator has done.

This then, is the story of creation in the first part. We of course, are of the aspect that the Prime Creator created to experience reality. This aspect may be known as Soul, but as you shall see, it is more correct to consider this aspect as Self. The Prime Creator’s intention to experience the possibilities of what It believed has become manifest in each of us as the instinct to experience reality, to understand that experience and to return with that understanding to our creator entity. Returning along the line of our inheritance, we will eventually deliver this experience back to the Prime Creator. We know the second aspect created by the Prime Creator as Spirit. You will see that this exulted entity, and the multitude it has spawned, is the glue that holds reality whole.

Long ago, the Prime Creator asked a question, and in doing so, set forth a process of creation that continues to this day. This creation evolves out of the combination and recombination of possibilities drawn from the Prime Creator’s belief in Its relationship with Its reality. We are the agent of that process, setting forth possibilities to experience and understand. Our brethren, Spirit, is the catalyst bringing our intention and our idea together as reality and holding that reality whole so that we may explore its limits. The Prime Creator’s answer is forthcoming, for even as we come to understand nature, so do we move closer to our return.

The Prime Creator appears to have been true to Its intention by refraining from further creation. Instead, It maintains the image of Its worldview while patiently waiting for Its creator aspect to return with a true understanding of how this worldview manifests in reality.

Creation in the second part continues even today, forming a reality that is spiraling ever deeper into complexity. This process has been dominated by the Principle of Aspectation that holds that either directly or by inheritance, everything is an aspect of the Prime Creator. Further, that an aspect must always inherit a subset of characteristics from its creator entity; the same in quality but less in quantity. An aspect may never be the same as its creator but is always part of the whole.

This Principle of Aspectation is an abstraction, to be sure, but it can be illustrated with a simple exercise in imagination. If you will, take a moment to imagine that you have an objective to create a personal reality and to understand its complexity. Do this by thinking of what you would do if you won the lottery. Just think! What would you do with all of that money? Of course, you will have all sorts of ideas. I expect you will begin thinking of these by first imagining situations that could possibly result from such good fortune, and then visualizing yourself in those situations to see how you like the results. For instance, if you like the idea of buying a new car, you might imagine your favorite make and model and think of yourself driving it. Or, think of how your friends might react if they saw you driving such a new, shiny thing.

Now hold an image of one of the ways you would spend the money. This situation you have imagined is a form of reality similar in substance to your physical reality. Also, when you imagine yourself in this personal reality, you are in effect, extending an aspect of yourself into that reality. Now consider the relationship of these mental images to your physical reality. Can you see that your imagined reality has inherited many aspects of the “real” thing, but not all? How about the aspect of yourself you extended into this image?

To return to our story, the creator entity came into existence full of instincts (urge or imperative) formed of the Prime Creator’s intention. It was an aspect of the Prime Creator forever linked with its creator by the flow of energy laden with the Prime Creator’s intention and governed by Its worldview. Spirit waited to assist in any way it could, but it was the creator entity who was driven to answer the Prime Creator’s question.

The creator entity responded to its spiritual instinct by forming an idea of how it might proceed. This idea was little more than a general plan of action, really. However, as the creator entity focused on a specific objective, the idea congealed into an image of sufficient intensity to form a matrix for creation. Here the forth element of reality became active. It is inherent in the energy linking the creator entity with the Prime Creator to gather near the focus of attention. As the creator entity became more certain of its path of action, this energy became more available. This permitted the creator entity to differentiate a substantial amount of energy according to its understanding of nature, and to emanate it into its local environment. Attracted by the strong expression of intention, Spirit drew near to accept the image, thereby applying the governing principles of nature and bringing the image into vibrant reality.

As it was in our beginning, so it is today that our creator entity infuses its image of reality with the intention that it remains a venue for our experience. It does this through the differentiation and emanation of the energy it receives from the Prime Creator. It is Spirit who continues to hold that image in the matrix of reality; energy made coherent through the action of myriad aspects of itself. We know these aspects of Spirit as Nature Spirits, guides and Devas. We thank Spirit for their generous support.

The creator entity could see that it had made but a grand stage, decorated with a likeness of Spiritual Reality, and suitable for exploring many interesting possibilities of the Prime Creator’s worldview. Of course, the creator entity could not both hold the image of the stage and explore its possibilities. For in truth, the stage was within itself. Also, there were many possibilities to be explored that required more than one aspect for the experience to be complete. The creator entity could proceed in no other way but to extend aspects of itself into this personal reality. “I will imagine myself in this reality,” the first creator entity decided, as it extended first one aspect of itself and then many, as each experience suggested new possibilities.

Thus a process of creation has become entrained into a local reality. This local reality is based on Spiritual Reality, but thrice removed. First, it is removed by the Prime Creator’s opinion of the true nature of Its existence. It is removed a second time by the first creator entity’s interpretation of that opinion. Third, it is removed by the perception of that reality held by the aspects the first creator entity has spawned. Even today, each aspect remains connected with its creator aspect by a flow of etheric energy. This energy is that which has been emanated by the Prime Creator, but differentiated with the creator entity’s intention to gain experience through its image of reality. As you can see, these aspects of the creator entity remain connected to the Prime Creator, but do so through the auspices of their creator. True to the Prime Creator’s intention, these aspects also have self-determination, leaving them free to gain understanding as they can.

In the beginning of our time, the first creative aspect was devoid of spiritual maturity because it knew only the operation of nature and nothing of the reason behind its operation. The image it held of reality was true to this limited understanding, being but an aspect of the Prime Creator’s reality. Even though this image inherited much of the Prime Creator’s knowing, it remained the product of an immature imagination. The aspects of the first creator entity found themselves driven to gain understanding of nature in a venue that lacked the complexity required to provide the experiences necessary to teach that understanding. They had no choice but to imagine new situations in which these experiences could be gained.

Herein began the third round of creation, or perhaps it is the forth for we cannot know if Spiritual Reality is the first or but one of many previous imaginings before the beginning of our time. Each third generation aspect had experienced different possibilities of the reality imagined by its creator aspect. It was natural, therefore, for each one to imagine a somewhat different reality in which to gain further experience. And so you can see, as Spirit applied the governing principles to each imagining in turn, yet another level of reality came into existence. These new realities were parallel in their relationship to the Prime Creator in that they inherited more or less the same degree of complexity and manifested a similar relationship to the true reality.

Having created a new venue for experience, these aspects then extended aspects of themselves into these personal realities to explore the possibilities offered therein. As you might expect, these new aspects inherited their creator’s instincts. They also benefited by a flow of energy, with which they could maintain and further enhance their local reality. Naturally, this energy was removed yet again from its origin in the Prime Creator, being further differentiated by the next creator entity.

You may see the pattern of creation that has formed in the process let lose by the Prime Creator’s curiosity. Round after round of further aspectation and differentiation has occurred as a hierarchy of creator aspects further refined their efforts to understand the ramifications of the Prime Creator’s worldview. Reality is complex. The first creator aspect discovered a hint of this complexity in the simplicity of its imagining. Today, we also are discovering this in our imagining as every element of our local reality presents infinite possibilities for experience and new understanding. From our perspective deep within Spiritual Reality, we do not know how far removed we are from the Prime Creator, only that we are within Its image of reality. What we do know is that untold creator aspects await us as we prepare to return with our new found understanding; our spiritual maturity.

You see, the governing principles of nature assure that we will return with understanding of the experiences our creator aspect has selected for us. For as our creator aspect extended us into its imagining, we inherited its instinct, but we lacked a full measure of the character born of its spiritual maturity. The principles have assured this in the Principle of Aspectation. If it were otherwise, if we entered into this cycle of birth and rebirth with a full understanding of all that our creator must know, then we would not immerse ourselves in the experience nor bother to seek out the lesson offered therein.

This has been a story of creation. There may be many variations to this story, but creation in rounds with the intention to understand the Prime Creator’s worldview must be at the heart of each. Take from this, the understanding that you are part of a grand experience, and are destined to return to the Prime Creator just as a solo is destined to return to the chorus.

Implicit Cosmology

This essay was written in 2004. Since then, I have evolved my understanding in metaphysics. So while the following list is historically interesting, and mostly in agreement with my later work, please refer to the article on Organizing Principles for a more current discussion. Future changes will be maintained in that article as part of the Implicit Cosmology.

Elements of the Standard Cosmology

Here then, are the basic elements of the Standard Cosmology hypothesis: (Please see Organizing Principles for a more complete and up to date list.)

  • Everything is energy, which is defined here as etheric energy. Ideas, feelings, intention, objects and life are formed of etheric energy that has been differentiated and emanated by an entity. Etheric energy has the properties of complex vibration, magnitude and flow. It is attracted, differentiated and emanated with the expression of intention. As a component of reality, physical energy is derived from etheric energy.

  • Principles govern the operation of etheric energy. These are known here as the organizing principles of reality in the Etheric Studies Cosmology. The principles apply throughout Reality. While its influence may be temporarily suspended, it may not ultimately be violated without consequence. Local rules, such as the acceleration of gravity, are not necessarily universal principles; however, they must be derived from these principles.

Formation

  • Agreement – Components of reality are limited in their association with other components by their vibration. In practical terms, this principle bears on the relationship Self has with other components of reality. No matter what Self intends when it differentiates energy and passes it into the environment, that energy is colored by Self’s nature. Thus, worldview helps to determine the vibration of the auric field surrounding Self, which is detected by others. Self is better able to communicate with others who have similar auric fields. This principle also suggests that nonphysical objects must be somehow changed in vibration, or enveloped in a protective sheath that is at a compatible vibration, before it may enter the Physical Plane.

  • Aspectation – Aspects inherit subsets of the characteristics of their creator.

  • Attraction – Systems of energy are attracted to energy of similar vibration.

  • Cause and Effect – A change in energy results in a change in reality.

  • Complexity – Formation tends to evolve from the simple to the complex, from which simplicity emerges. In other words, patterns emerge from complexity. These patterns contain the essence of that complexity. Thus, complex systems tend to resolve themselves around nodes, which, taken in themselves, function as loci for evolving simplicity.

  • Conservation – The energy available for any purpose is limited by the Self’s ability to gather energy into its system. An example corollary is that attention is a finite resource.

  • Continuity – There is one continuous reality existing everywhere. Local reality is a personal view of reality.

  • Equilibrium – Forces within a system tend toward equilibrium.

  • Evolution – Everything is subject to change. Nothing remains at rest indefinitely.

  • Formation – Reality is formed with the application of intelligence on etheric energy.

  • Life – The characteristics attributed to life may be found in all components of reality.

  • Pattern – Creation is not random, but tends toward loci. That is, reality is bunchy.

  • Place – Place must be bounded and have specific links of association with other places.

  • Polarity – Forces in a system exists as balanced extremes tending toward neutrality.

  • Process – Change occurs through consecutive, related events.

  • Reciprocity – Energy exerts an influence in the direction of attention and back toward its source.

  • Relationship – Components in reality are interconnected by bi-directional lines of force that form a matrix of relationships. Self strengthens these relationships with familiarity.

  • Rhythm – There is an ebb and flow of energy in a system.

  • Simplicity – Reality manifests as the simplest available formulation of etheric energy.

  • System – Components of reality with shared purpose may collect as an interrelated matrixes of forces with definable boundaries.

  • Time – Process requires the passage of time.

  • Vibration – Characteristics of components of reality are determined by a complex set of vibratory rates.

Reality

  • Ordering Principles – There is order in reality.

  • Regions – Etheric energy of common characteristics is concentrated around loci, which constitute regions of existence. The physical region includes this universe and possible parallel venues.

Self

  • Attention – Focused attention directs energy.

  • Balance – A system in balance requires less energy to maintain than one at extremes.

  • Discernment – Self’s success depends on its ability to manage available energy.

  • Emanation – Self receives energy, differentiates it and emanates it into the environment.

  • Focus – Self’s ability to focus attention determines its ability to influence objects of reality.

  • Intention – Etheric energy is put in motion with intention.

  • Obscurity – Reality beyond the locale of experience is obscured to conserve energy.

  • Perspective – Self’s perspective or worldview contains the underlying assumptions used in differentiation, and thus determines the nature of the etheric energy Self emanates.

  • Local Reality – Self creates a local reality based on its worldview.

  • Self-determination – Self has the freedom to behave as it wishes within the constraints of the governing principles.

Spiritual Instincts

  • Experience – The essence of Self’s motivation is to understanding the governing principles through experience.

  • Fulfillment – Fulfillment is in the return of a spiritually mature Self to its creator entity.

  • Guidance – Self is a participant in the process of fulfillment in its fellow aspects.

  • Opportunity – Opportunities for experience are created.

  • Spiritual Maturity – The understanding of the order in nature.

Our relationship with nature may be summarized with the saying to “Do what you must, but know what you are doing.” Since we have self-determination, it is our responsibility to understand the relationship of our actions with the governing principles of nature.

A creator entity with a worldview and a sense of curiosity constitute the initial condition for the Standard Cosmology. The question of our existence is thus bounded by for elements of reality. These are: the Prime Creator, who holds the purpose for our reality; creator aspects, who imagines, experiences and understands a reality bounded by the Prime Creator’s worldview; Spirit which maintains and operates reality; and, etheric energy emanated by the Prime Creator as the foundation of reality. It is understood that the Prime Creator must exist in a reality that is a superset of that bounded by the governing principles of nature.

The pattern of creation is the same throughout reality. That is: attention on an image; intention to bring that image into reality; gathering of energy; application of principles on energy to manifest intended reality according to image; and, extension of aspect of self to experience resulting reality. This applies to the creation of an object of reality and to the creation of entire levels of reality.

Individually, we are related to the Prime Creator through a hierarchy of creator aspects. The extent of this hierarchy is unknown. Just as the Prime Creator holds the image of the greater reality as Its worldview, so does a creator aspect of the Prime Creator hold our local reality in its worldview.

We, as Self, have been extended into this local reality we call the Physical Plane to gain understanding of experiences uniquely associated with this plane. Having been extended into this reality, we will remain in this locale through repeated incarnations into this plane or into other circumstances in this locale until we have gained sufficient spiritual maturity to return back to our creator entity. In this case, spiritual maturity is gained by learning to understand the operation of nature as it applies to this local reality. All else is part of this process.

We, as Self, are symbiotically related to the physical body we occupy, but otherwise we are not the body. Our physical body has independent self-awareness, which includes instincts such as reproduction, feeding and survival. These instincts are capable of influencing Self’s behavior until Self gains sufficient spiritual maturity to compensate for their influence.

The formative aspect of the Prime Creator known as Spirit consists of a hierarchy of entities focused on the operation of the governing principles and the maintenance of reality. Thus, our physical body is supported by members of this hierarchy, as are the mineral, plant and animal components of this plane. Aspects of Spirit also support our Self.

The Standard Cosmology as a Tool for Personal Growth

I selected the titling of this essay to be Not If But What If, to emphasize the need to change the focus of research into these concepts from validation to application. I am an engineer by temperament and by training. As such, it is fundamental to my worldview that information can never be rejected, but must be averaged into the preexisting body of data I hold as my understanding. There are always alternative perspectives, some of which may cast what seemed to be senseless information as vitally important. In my mind, this essay outlines information that has been relegated to esoterica even though the majority of Humanity is actively seeking its discovery.

What if these concepts are valid? Consider for a moment how the concepts I have addressed here might influence your life. What if there is continuation of life? What if the very reason for your existence is to experience the operation of nature, to understand the implications of that operation and to return with that understanding to the entity who created you? It is clear that there is more to reality than is detected by our instruments or our physical senses. People who claim to know something of this extended reality insist that our understanding of it is vital to our well being, to the world and to our fellow beings. What if they are right?

As promised, I will now attempt to identify a few of the predictions that follow from the Standard Cosmology hypothesis. As you consider the following possibilities, remember that worldview is everything.

a.   Positive and Negative
Experience is neutral in that it is neither positive nor negative. This is not to say that experience is impersonal, for every experience contains within it illustrations of the operation of nature as it applies to the individual. As a person comes to understand this, even the most difficult experiences will be seen as beneficial.

b.   Process of Creation
Examine the process of creating a physical object from the perspective of this hypothesis. A need initiates the process of conception in which possible solutions are examined, rejected or modified until a satisfactory image of the solution is formed in the mind. Following the Principle of Agreement, the image does not come into reality without the application of physical energy to create the object. In effect, the image exists at a higher rate of vibration because it is not physical. The physical object becomes the body that holds the image, thus enabling it to exist in the Physical Plane. The image exists as an object of reality that has been created by the person who holds it, even if a physical rendering of the image is not constructed. We generally think of this referenced image as memory, but the change in perspective called for by the hypothesis is that the image exists as a nonphysical object that is called on when the attention is turned to the image.

c.   Learned Ability
The ability to sense etheric energy at nonphysical rates of vibration can be learned;4 however, some people will be more sensitive than others. The main factors governing this ability are spiritual maturity, experience and the ability to focus attention. In other words, it is possible to teach a person to behave as a psychic.

d.   Physical and Nonphysical
There appears to be loci around which the rates of vibration of etheric energy tend to focus. That is, there are regions along the etheric energy spectrum that are more densely populated with energy than are others. Our region is known as the Physical Plane. Etheric energy vibrating at rates closely associated with this region is referred to as physical, and of course, all else is nonphysical. For a nonphysical object to enter into the physical rate of vibration, it must be somehow enveloped in a physical body or have its rate of vibration changed to agree with the Physical Plane. Thus, as nonphysical entities, we enter into this plane by joining with a physical body at the time of our birth.

e.   Mediumship
Information originating from a nonphysical entity must also be hosted into the Physical Plane. People whom we know as mediums facilitate this communication of idea objects by gathering the physical energy necessary to translate the information. For instance, the appearance of a ghost, which is physical manifestation of nonphysical phenomena, requires considerable energy and witnesses who are sensitive to that energy. Researchers should expect to find that every incidence of such phenomena is associated with one or more people who are able to gather etheric energy as aware or unaware mediums. This energy may also be gathered through strong rapport amongst a group of people. However, even in such a cooperating group, researchers should expect to find an individual who is able to function as a gatekeeper or anchor for the group.

f.    Physiological Support of Nonphysical Functions
Researchers are able to locate centers of specific mental functions within the matrix of the brain. From this, it has become understood as matter of fact that these mental functions reside in these regions. The Standard Cosmology requires a change in perspective as suggested by the Principle of Agreement. Self exists on a continuum between its creator entity and its physical body. In this regard, perhaps Self is better described as a distributed awareness. The contents of memory exists outside of the Physical Plane. It cannot be accessed from the physical body without a physical method of translation. It is more correct to say that tests which evokes mental response through physical stimulation of the brain is actually stimulating the access device for that response.

g.   Etheric Creatures
The Principle of Continuity suggests that the large variety of creatures inhabiting our planet should have a nonphysical counterpart. Rather than feeding on plants, for instance, an etheric moth might feed on emotion. The descriptions of many unidentified flying objects suggest self-aware, nonphysical organisms that are able to momentarily enter into physical reality. A good example of this is the Foo Fighters reported during the Second World War. These flying plasma balls are suggestive of etheric entities attracted to strong emanations of fear and the dedication to duty.

Concluding Remarks

At the end, I must leave you with your thoughts. It is important to me that you seriously consider the possibilities I have described here. But I know that for you to do so, you must be able to imagine these possibilities. Are you able to do this with your current worldview?

Consider this last point. If a person has a subliminal sense of something, danger for instance, will that person consciously respond, or will the person in some way act out a response without knowing? There are millions of people in the world who subliminally sense bits and pieces of nonphysical reality. They act out responses to this input in sometimes outlandish ways. Perhaps this is why the New Age culture seems to be a haven for dreamers and misfits. I submit to you that there is something to the hypothesis I present here. Personal experience may validate it while clinical trials fail, but with or without proof, can you afford to ignore its possibilities? What if these concepts are valid?

What has been promised has been delivered. Now I must thank you for this opportunity to share my views. May this ending of my presentation be the beginning of your consideration.


  1. “Metaphysics” is used to designate the study of reality from the perspective of creation, physical and non physical reality as an orderly and continuous venue for existence, and the relationship between Self and this reality. Terms with a “para-” prefix are avoided as contradictions to the validity of these concepts.

  3. “New Agers” is used here as reference to an unfederated community of individuals who behave as if metaphysical concepts are valid. New Agers are distinguished by their sense of immediacy concerning the larger reality.
